Who Is A Hacker ?

When ever the term 'HACKER' is said it means to most of us that these are the people who are always engaged in wrong activities oe crime, always breaking in to system , spreading viruses or destroying important files. Most of us think that are outlaws of computer era. But the fact is that a hacker is a person who enjoys in exploring and learning how a computer system operates. Hacker knows how a operating system works and how to stretch its capabilities, as opposed to most users who prefer to learn only the minimum necessary things. They have advanced knowledge of the operating system. Hackers constantly seek for further knowledge and share what ever knowledge they have or discovered, they have the knowledge of advance programming, in short they are sought of wizards of the computer age. This group of computer Expert's , is further divided into three categories, among them one is known as White-Hat Hackers.

The White-Hat Hackers are the people who always works in the favor of the computer users. Their main motive is to fihght against computer crimes and constantly learn and tech noemal user about the technology used. They never indulge in crime and always work in a constructive manner. The hackers who are under this category of computer experts are always respected.

And a person, who breaks into system, destroys vital data, harm the integrity of system, spread viruses and finally does all the malicious activities are know as crackers. They can be pointed out easily because they do only the destructive works. If they find any security hole, will only exploit it. They are known as Black-Hat Hackers. They work for their personal gain, profit, fame or revenge. Both the groups of hackers have tremendous knowledge.

And the third category of hackers, relatively a hybrid category is known as Grey-Hat Hackers, they have knowladge level equal to both the type of hackers, i.e. Black-Hat as well as White-Hat. They use their knowladge for their own porpose, very rarely they work for other people. You can say that they are White-Hat Hackers who behave like Black-Hat Hackers, or have qualities of White-Hat Hackers but use these qualities like Black-Hat Hackers.

You might have heard about script kiddies, if don't then let me tell you, these are the peoples who uses tools made by well known hackers to hack into accounts or networks. Script kiddies can be easliy indentified because they lack the basic knowladge and will always boast about some or other tool which is widly used, they pretend to be an elite hacker but they lack in the basic knowladge or don't have idea of the basic techonlogy used. They just search for any tool, learn how to use it and tell people about it in such a manner that they are the only knowladgeable person and rests of the people are fool everytime, repeatedly in publicly they will boast about some famous hacking tool which they know and indirectly address them self's as a great knowladgeable person. If you think they are dangerous because they call them self a Black or White Hat Hackers then forget it, because they will always use techniques or exploits which are told earlier by other hackers ages back and which does not exist now. Although these exploits can be found if you are using an ancient time operating system, do you? Sometimes they are ill framed by media as a great hacker. Anyway, now you might be able to make out who are Script Kiddies.

The Second category in this type of people i sthe packet monkeys. They are similer to the Script Kiddies, they uses tools made by other hackers or well known programmers but unlike Script Kiddies they have the ability to capture the whole network with the help of tools designed by others. They deliberately try to hack into networks or accounts without any reason and does not understand what harm it may cause, they just attack for thrill and fame, they does not leave any clues, making the situation more like a denial of service attack. They can be dangerous as compared to Script Kiddies.
